Biography

Philippe Coutinho Correia was born on June 12, 1992, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He plays as an attacking midfielder and is known for his vision, passing, dribbling, and ability to curl long-range shots. Coutinho has played in top European leagues and for some of the world's best clubs.

His career started in Brazil with Vasco da Gama, where he showed great talent from a young age. In 2008, when he was just 16, the Italian Serie A club Inter Milan signed him for €4 million, but he stayed at Vasco on loan to continue developing. He debuted for Inter Milan in 2010 and was loaned to the Spanish club Espanyol in 2012 before getting his big break.

Coutinho really made his mark after joining Liverpool in January 2013. At Anfield, he excelled under different managers and became one of the Premier League's most creative players. He was named to the PFA Team of the Year in 2015 and was Liverpool's fans' and players' player of the year in 2015 and 2016. He was crucial for Liverpool during a time of change for the club.

In January 2018, Coutinho made a big move to Barcelona, winning two La Liga titles. Looking for more playing time, he was loaned to Bayern Munich for the 2019-20 season, where he was key in their treble win, claiming the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Champions League. He later joined Aston Villa, first on loan in January 2022, then permanently that summer. After his time at Villa, he returned to Vasco da Gama before becoming a free agent.

Internationally, Coutinho debuted for Brazil in 2010 and has been a regular on the national team. He played in the 2015 Copa América and Copa América Centenario in 2016, made his World Cup debut in 2018 in Russia, scoring two goals, and was part of Brazil's squad that won the 2019 Copa América at home.

Before Fame

Philippe Coutinho grew up in Rio de Janeiro during the early 2000s when Brazilian football was producing a new generation of technically skilled players who would later dominate European football. He joined Vasco da Gama's youth academy as a child and quickly stood out for his exceptional technical skills and football intelligence.

His rise happened at a time when European clubs were increasingly investing in young South American talent, seeing the benefit of acquiring players before they reached their peak. Coutinho's early move to Inter Milan at age 16 showed this trend. The loan arrangement back to Vasco allowed him to keep developing in familiar surroundings while adjusting to the pressures of professional football in Brazil's competitive domestic scene.
