Ram Chandra Poudel was born in 1944 in the Tanahun District, a hilly area in the Gandaki Province of Nepal. He became a key figure in the Nepali Congress party, dedicating many years to democratic politics and constitutional governance in Nepal. His political journey included the turbulent times of the Panchayat era, the return of multiparty democracy in 1990, the decade-long Maoist insurgency, and the shift to a federal democratic republic.
