Biography
Sanna Viktoria Nielsen, born on November 27, 1984, in Ivetofta, Skåne County, Sweden, is known for her success in Sweden's national song competitions, especially Melodifestivalen, which selects Sweden's Eurovision entry. Her work covers pop music, dansband, schlager, TV presenting, and musical theatre.
Nielsen gained recognition early on, winning the Ulla Billquist Scholarship in 2002 and being named Årets Skåning (Skåne Person of the Year) in 2003. She became a fan favorite at Melodifestivalen, competing several times before her 2014 win with "Undo," her seventh attempt.
She represented Sweden at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Denmark, achieving third place with a standout performance. This success raised her profile, allowing her to become a commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 on Swedish TV and co-host Melodifestivalen 2015 with comedian Robin Paulsson.
Nielsen expanded her television career further by hosting Allsång på Skansen in the summer of 2016, taking over a beloved Swedish TV program. She also hosted Eurovision The Party at the Tele2 Arena during the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, solidifying her status in Swedish entertainment. She has received the Kristallen award for her contributions to Swedish television. Throughout her career, Nielsen has shown talent in various musical genres and entertainment styles, from intimate dansband settings to large Eurovision stages and popular TV hosting.
Before Fame
Growing up in the small town of Ivetofta in southern Sweden, Nielsen honed her musical talents in an area known for its strong folk music traditions and Danish cultural influences. In the early 2000s, Swedish pop music was gaining international attention after ABBA's success, and talent competitions were becoming more popular as a way to start musical careers.
Nielsen started taking her musical ambitions seriously in her late teens. She gained formal recognition with the Ulla Billquist Scholarship in 2002, named after the well-known Swedish singer. Early in her career, she performed in various musical styles, including dansband music—a popular Swedish genre mixing folk, pop, and country influences. This experience helped her develop the vocal strength and stage presence that would later be an asset in larger competitions.
