Biography

Shinji Kagawa is a Japanese footballer, born on March 17, 1989, in Kobe, Japan. He's considered one of Japan's greatest players, having had a successful career in various leagues around the world. Known for his technical skills, vision, and ability to score from midfield, Kagawa has made a mark in every part of his career.

Kagawa started his professional journey with Cerezo Osaka in Japan's J2 League. He was the first midfielder to become the top scorer in J.League history, playing as a shadow striker. In 2009, he teamed up effectively with Takashi Inui and led the J2 League in goals and assists, making a name for himself as a promising young talent in Japan.

In 2010, Kagawa moved to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. His success in Germany led to a significant transfer to Manchester United in 2012 with a four-year contract. After two seasons in the Premier League, he returned to Dortmund and continued to shine. During his time in Europe, Kagawa set records as the Japanese player with the most appearances and goals in UEFA club competitions.

After his second period at Dortmund, Kagawa played in different European leagues for Beşiktaş in Turkey, Real Zaragoza in Spain, PAOK in Greece, and Sint-Truiden in Belgium. In January 2023, he returned to Cerezo Osaka, coming full circle back to where he started. Internationally, Kagawa has been impressive, earning over 90 caps for Japan since debuting in May 2008 and scoring more than 30 goals. In 2012, he was honored as the Asian Football Confederation International Player of the Year.
