The 1969 Formula One season saw Jackie Stewart in dominant form. At Silverstone, Stewart and Jochen Rindt engaged in a close battle, repeatedly overtaking each other using slipstreaming tactics on the fast circuit, setting up a tense finish.
Stewart won the 1969 British Grand Prix, lapping the entire field. Late in the race, he signalled Rindt that the end plate of Rindt's rear wing had come loose and was fouling his tyre. Rindt confirmed the fault in his mirror and was forced to pit, where his team also failed to add sufficient fuel, requiring a second stop.
Stewart's victory, his fifth in six races, solidified his path to the 1969 World Championship. Rindt's double pit stop effectively ended his chances in the race. The event was also notable as the only race Cosworth officially entered as a constructor, though their car was withdrawn before the race weekend.
