The 2007 Formula One season brought a highly competitive field to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Lewis Hamilton, a rookie competing in his first top-formula season, qualified on pole position, while multiple incidents including Robert Kubica's heavy crash and a pit lane red-light infringement by two drivers set up a chaotic race environment requiring repeated safety car interventions.
On 10 June 2007, Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix, leading from pole position. The safety car was deployed four times, including after Robert Kubica's crash that left him with a sprained ankle and concussion. Felipe Massa and Giancarlo Fisichella were black-flagged for exiting the pit lane on a red light. Alexander Wurz finished third, becoming the last Austrian driver to reach a Formula One podium as of 2024.
Hamilton's victory was the first of an eventual record 105 Formula One wins. Alexander Wurz's third-place finish proved to be the final podium of his career. The race also marked the last use of the black flag in Formula One until the 2024 São Paulo Grand Prix, and was notable as the first 2007 race in which non-Ferrari and non-McLaren drivers reached the podium.
