Morocco was originally selected to host the tournament but requested a postponement citing the West African Ebola virus epidemic. CAF rejected the postponement request and removed Morocco as host, replacing it with Equatorial Guinea at short notice.
The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations was held in Equatorial Guinea from 17 January to 8 February. Ivory Coast met Ghana in the final, which ended goalless after extra time. Ivory Coast won the title by defeating Ghana 9–8 in a penalty shoot-out, with DR Congo finishing third and hosts Equatorial Guinea fourth.
Ivory Coast secured their second continental title, having previously won in 1992. Defending champions Nigeria were absent, having failed to qualify, marking a notable upset in the lead-up to the tournament.
