The 2020 Formula One World Championship scheduled two consecutive races at Bahrain International Circuit in late November and early December. The first, on the Grand Prix Circuit layout, was the fifteenth round of the season and the sixteenth time the Bahrain Grand Prix had featured as a championship round.
On 29 November 2020, Lewis Hamilton won the 57-lap race from pole position, finishing ahead of Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon. The race was suspended for eighty minutes after Romain Grosjean's Haas VF-20 split in two and caught fire on the opening lap, with Grosjean escaping with second-degree burns to his hands.
Grosjean's injuries prevented him from competing in the final two races of the season, effectively ending his Formula One career; he subsequently moved to the IndyCar Series. Hamilton's victory was Mercedes' last win of the 2020 season, with Sergio Pérez and Max Verstappen winning the following two rounds at Sakhir and Abu Dhabi respectively.
