Manchester City and Inter Milan advanced through the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League knockout rounds to meet in the final. The match was held in Istanbul after scheduling disruptions caused by COVID-19 pandemic relocations had shifted the originally planned hosts across multiple years.
On 10 June 2023, at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Manchester City defeated Inter Milan 1–0. Rodri scored the decisive second-half goal and was named man of the match by UEFA, securing Manchester City's first-ever European Cup title.
The victory gave Manchester City the continental treble—only the second time achieved in English men's football—and qualified the club for the 2023 UEFA Super Cup, the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. They subsequently won both the Super Cup and Club World Cup.
