Palestine Action, a pro-Palestinian direct action group, targeted Elbit Systems UK in Filton due to the company's role as an Israeli arms manufacturer and its alleged supply of weapons used in Gaza. Activists sought to disrupt operations and draw attention to British complicity in Israeli military activity.
On 6 August 2024, activists drove a repurposed prison van into the Elbit Systems compound, breached security fences, entered the facility, and caused substantial damage to property and equipment. Several were arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, criminal damage, violent disorder, and one with grievous bodily harm for allegedly striking a police officer with a sledgehammer.
All defendants were acquitted of aggravated burglary; violent disorder charges were dropped. A retrial produced four criminal damage convictions. A judge secretly applied a terrorism enhancement in March 2025, restricting reporting until May 2026, meaning convicted activists face harsher sentences and registration as terrorists, significantly affecting their lives post-release.
