CMLL founded the Homenaje a Salvador Lutteroth show in 1996 to honor its founder, who died in March 1987. From 1999 onward, the event was expanded to commemorate a second lucha libre legend annually, evolving into the promotion's Hall of Fame equivalent.
On March 18, 2016, CMLL held Homenaje a Dos Leyendas at Arena México, honoring wrestler Lizmark. The card featured two Lucha de Apuestas hair-vs-hair matches: Volador Jr. defeated Negro Casas in the main event, and Rush defeated Máximo Sexy in the fourth match, with both losers having their heads shaved.
Negro Casas and Máximo Sexy were shaved bald following their losses, as is customary in lucha libre Apuesta matches. The event continued CMLL's tradition of celebrating its history while staging high-stakes matches that carry lasting personal consequences for the wrestlers involved.
