Malta's Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) earned the right to host after the previous year's winning broadcaster, continuing the contest's tradition of hosting rotation. Italy, Montenegro, and Slovenia entered as debutants, expanding the competition to sixteen participating countries.
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 took place on 15 November 2014 at Malta Shipbuilding in Marsa, Malta, presented solely by Moira Delia — the first time a single presenter hosted the event. Vincenzo Cantiello represented Italy with "Tu primo grande amore" and won the contest, with Bulgaria and Armenia finishing second and third.
Italy's victory was the country's first in any Eurovision event since the final edition of Jeux Sans Frontières in 1999 and marked the first time since the 2003 inaugural contest that a country won Junior Eurovision in its debut year, setting a historic precedent in the competition's records.
