Kaitlin Armstrong, who had an on-and-off relationship with professional cyclist Colin Strickland, became aware of a prior romantic involvement between Strickland and Anna Moriah Wilson. Investigators concluded that Armstrong acted out of jealousy over this relationship, providing her alleged motive for the crime.
On May 11, 2022, Anna Moriah Wilson was fatally shot at a friend's residence in Austin, Texas. Surveillance footage placed Armstrong near the scene and physical evidence linked her to the killing. After police questioning, Armstrong fled the United States using her sister's passport, altered her appearance, and used multiple aliases before being located in Costa Rica 43 days later.
Armstrong was extradited to Texas and stood trial beginning in October 2023. On November 16, 2023, she was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 90 years in prison, with parole eligibility after 30 years. She is currently incarcerated at the Dr. Lane Murray Unit in Texas.
