UEFA Euro 2008 was organized as the quadrennial continental championship for UEFA member nations. Austria and Switzerland were awarded joint hosting rights, qualifying automatically, while 14 other teams qualified through a tournament held between August 2006 and November 2007.
The tournament took place across Austria and Switzerland from 7 to 29 June 2008, featuring 16 nations competing in 31 matches. Spain won all their group stage fixtures and progressed undefeated through the knockout rounds, defeating Germany 1–0 in the final to claim the title.
Spain's victory earned them a place in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa. Their unbeaten run made them only the second nation to win all group stage matches and the championship, matching France's feat from 1984, and the first undefeated winner since Germany in 1996.
