Biography

Christian Mate Pulisic was born on September 18, 1998, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He grew up in a family closely tied to soccer; his father, Mark Pulisic, played college soccer and later became a coach, which gave Christian an early start in the sport. Pulisic attended Hershey High School before his growing talent led him to pursue professional soccer in Europe at a young age. His Croatian background is shown in the Croatian spelling of his surname, Pulišić, linking him to a wider athletic heritage.

Pulisic joined Borussia Dortmund's youth academy in Germany and moved up quickly, playing only 15 youth matches before being promoted to the senior team in January 2016 at 17. He became a key player in the Bundesliga, helping Dortmund win the 2016–17 DFB-Pokal. His performances during this time got him recognized as one of the best young players in the world, finishing second for the 2018 Kopa Trophy for the world's best player under 21.

In January 2019, Pulisic moved to Chelsea in the English Premier League for about $73 million, becoming the most expensive North American soccer player at that time. After finishing the 2018–19 season on loan at Dortmund, he started playing for Chelsea in the 2019–20 season. During his time with Chelsea, he won the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League, becoming the first American to play in a Champions League final. He also won the 2021 UEFA Super Cup and the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup with the club.

In June 2023, Pulisic transferred to AC Milan in Italy's Serie A, starting a new chapter in his career. He quickly made his mark at the club and added the 2024–25 Supercoppa Italiana to his achievements. He holds the record as the all-time leading American goalscorer and assist provider across Europe's top five leagues, including Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.

On the international stage, Pulisic has been a key player for the United States men's national team since making his senior debut in March 2016 at 17. He became the youngest player to captain the U.S. national team at 20 and is often called 'Captain America' for his leadership and consistent performances. Many analysts and fans consider him one of the greatest North American soccer players in history, known for his dribbling, attacking style, and creative playmaking.

Before Fame

Christian Pulisic grew up in Hershey, Pennsylvania, in a family where soccer was a big part of everyday life. His dad, Mark, had played college soccer and worked as a coach, so Christian got a lot of soccer training and learned about strategies from a very young age. Pulisic went to Hershey High School, and even then, his soccer skills were getting noticed beyond just the local area.

Instead of taking the usual American route of playing college soccer, Pulisic chose to go to Europe as a teenager and joined the well-known youth academy of Borussia Dortmund in Germany. He quickly moved up in the ranks, needing only 15 games with the youth team before being promoted to the senior squad, showing he was ahead of his peers. This early move to a top European club laid the groundwork for his professional career, making him a major figure in American soccer history.
