David Lekuta Rudisha, MBS (born 17 December 1988) is a retired Kenyan middle-distance runner known for his unmatched dominance in the 800-meter event. Hailing from Kilgoris, Rudisha is widely considered the greatest 800-meter runner ever, holding the world record of 1:40.91 set during his gold medal win at the 2012 London Olympics. He is the only person to have run the 800 meters in under 1:41 seconds, a remarkable achievement that sets him apart in track and field. Rudisha also holds the three fastest times in the 800 meters, each setting a world record when achieved.
Rudisha's athletic journey began at St. Francis Kimuron High School in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, where he built the groundwork for his future success. His international breakthrough took place at the 2006 World Junior Championships, where he won the 800-meter title. This early victory hinted at his future dominance on the world stage, leading to gold medals at both the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics.
