Biography

Edinson Roberto Cavani Gómez was born on February 14, 1987, in Salto, Uruguay. Known as 'El Matador,' he became one of the top strikers of his time, known for his precise finishing, relentless work ethic, and outstanding ability in the air. His career has taken him to clubs in South America, Italy, France, England, and Spain. He is Uruguay's top scorer with 58 international goals in 138 games, recognized not just for scoring but also for his pressing and defensive play as a forward.

Cavani started his pro career at Danubio in Montevideo, spending two years there before moving to Palermo in Italy in 2007. His performance in Serie A drew lots of attention, leading to a 2010 transfer to Napoli on an initial loan, later made permanent for €17 million. At Napoli, Cavani thrived, winning the Coppa Italia in 2012 and taking the Serie A Golden Boot in the 2012–13 season. He was part of Serie A's Team of the Year three times, marking himself as a top striker in the league.

In 2013, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) signed Cavani for about €64 million, then the priciest deal in French football history. His time at PSG saw consistent high performance and many goals. He won six Ligue 1 titles, five Coupes de la Ligue, and four Coupes de France with the team, and he is PSG's second-highest scorer ever. He was repeatedly named in the UNFP Ligue 1 Team of the Year during his time in France.

In 2020, Cavani joined Manchester United, scoring 17 goals in his first season, including one in the UEFA Europa League final. His professionalism and performance at Old Trafford drew much admiration, especially considering his age when he joined. He later signed with Valencia in 2022 before moving to Argentine club Boca Juniors.

Internationally, Cavani scored in his debut for Uruguay against Colombia in 2008 and went on to become the country's top scorer. He took part in four FIFA World Cups (2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022), five Copa América tournaments, and the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. He helped Uruguay finish fourth at the 2010 World Cup and was in the squad that won the Copa América in 2011. He was also the top scorer in CONMEBOL's qualifying for the 2018 World Cup with ten goals.

Before Fame

Edinson Cavani grew up in Salto, a city in northwestern Uruguay known for producing football talent. Raised in a modest household, he developed his skills in local youth clubs before joining Danubio in Montevideo. His early years in football coincided with a time when Uruguayan football was looking to regain its former glory.

At Danubio, Cavani honed the physical and technical skills that would shape his career. His performances attracted European scouts, and in 2007 he moved to Palermo in Italy's Serie A. The Italian league was considered one of the best places for young strikers to prove themselves, and Cavani's quick adaptation showed he had what it took to compete at the top level.
