Biography
Garcelle Beauvais was born on November 26, 1966, in Saint-Marc, Haiti, and moved to the United States with her family when she was young. She attended North Miami Beach High School and finished her education there before starting a career in entertainment. She first made her mark in the modeling industry, working as a fashion model, and then transitioned into acting roles that defined her career.
Beauvais became widely known for playing Fancy Monroe on The Jamie Foxx Show, which ran from 1996 to 2001. Her performance on the show made her a key figure in TV comedy and led to bigger acting roles. She later joined the cast of the police drama NYPD Blue as Detective Valerie Haywood, showing she could handle both comedy and drama.
She has appeared in several major Hollywood films. She was in the 1988 Eddie Murphy comedy Coming to America early in her career and returned for the 2021 sequel, Coming 2 America, marking over three decades with the franchise. Other significant films include the 2013 action thriller White House Down and the 2017 Marvel film Spider-Man: Homecoming, showing her range across different genres and high-profile projects.
In 2020, Beauvais became the first Black woman to join the main cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She stayed with the series for five seasons before leaving after season 14. At the same time, she co-hosted the daytime talk show The Real from 2020 to 2022 with Adrienne Bailon, Loni Love, and Jeannie Mai during its last two seasons. Before Fame
Before becoming famous in Hollywood, Beauvais grew up within the Haitian immigrant community in South Florida, where her family moved after leaving Haiti. Being introduced to American culture while holding onto her Haitian background shaped her views and later fueled her advocacy work. She started modeling as a teenager, which was her first step into the entertainment world.
Modeling in the 1980s gave Beauvais valuable training for the entertainment industry, teaching her about professionalism and how to be comfortable in front of the camera. Her shift from modeling to acting happened at a time when television was starting to include more diversity, opening doors for performers of color to land significant roles in mainstream shows.
