Lila Tretikov, a Russian-American software engineer and technology executive, was born in 1978. She became well-known internationally when she was named Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation in May 2014, where she was in charge of running Wikipedia and its related projects. While at Wikimedia, she worked on initiatives to make knowledge more accessible globally and updated the foundation's technology infrastructure. Before Wikimedia, Tretikov worked at SugarCRM, a customer relationship management software company, where she gained experience in enterprise software development and management. Her software engineering background gave her the technical skills needed to manage Wikipedia's complex global operations.
