Biography
Mame Biram Diouf was born on December 16, 1987, in Dakar, Senegal. He started his professional football career at Senegalese club Diaraf, then moved to Norwegian team Molde in 2007. In his first season with Molde, Diouf helped the team win the Norwegian First Division, which promoted them to the top level of Norwegian football. His impressive performances and knack for scoring attracted several top European clubs, and in January 2009, he signed with Manchester United, one of England's most successful clubs. He stayed on loan at Molde until January 2010, continuing to gain experience.
At Manchester United, Diouf made a strong impression when he got the chance, notably scoring on his home debut at Old Trafford. Although his first-team chances were limited due to competition, he was part of the squad that won the League Cup in 2010, sitting on the bench in the final. Unable to secure a regular starting position at Old Trafford, he left the club in January 2012 for the German Bundesliga team Hannover 96. His time in Germany was much more fruitful in terms of playing time, and he scored 35 goals in 71 appearances for Hannover, proving himself as a reliable striker in European football.
In summer 2014, Diouf joined Stoke City in the English Premier League on a free transfer. Over six seasons at the club, he made 157 appearances and scored 25 goals in all competitions. During this time, Stoke City was regularly in the Premier League, and Diouf became well-known for his physical style, hard work, and ability to both score and press opposing defenders. He left Stoke in the summer of 2020 after the club was relegated to the Championship.
After leaving Stoke City, Diouf continued his career in Turkey, signing with Ankara Keçiörengücü in the TFF First League. Internationally, Diouf debuted for the Senegal national team in 2009 in a 2–1 friendly win over DR Congo. He played for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015 and 2017, and was part of the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, one of the world's most-watched sports events. His international career lasted nearly a decade, showing his importance in Senegalese football.
