Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao Sr., born December 17, 1978, in Kibawe, Bukidnon, Philippines, is a professional boxer, former politician, actor, singer, and basketball fan. He became one of the most recognizable athletes in world history. Known as 'PacMan,' he rose from extreme poverty in the southern Philippines to become the only boxer to win world championships in eight weight divisions. This achievement redefined what people thought was possible in boxing. He attended Notre Dame of Dadiangas University in General Santos City, the city he became closely associated with throughout his career. He is married to Jinkee Pacquiao, and they have children who have grown up in the spotlight of their father's global fame.
Before Fame
Manny Pacquiao grew up very poor in Kibawe, a town in the province of Bukidnon in Mindanao, before his family moved to General Santos City. His childhood was filled with food scarcity and financial struggles, and as a teenager, he left home to find work and opportunities. He started boxing as a young teenager, even lying about his age to compete in early matches, and went pro at around 16 in 1995. He attended Notre Dame of Dadiangas University while he was already starting to make a name for himself in boxing.
