Biography

Maroš Šefčovič was born on 24 July 1966 in Bratislava, which was part of Czechoslovakia at the time. He studied at the University of Economics in Bratislava, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, and Comenius University, gaining a solid background in economics, law, and international affairs. He began his career in Slovak diplomacy and advanced through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before moving to European institutions.

Growing up in socialist Czechoslovakia during the Cold War, Šefčovič experienced a period of major political change in Eastern Europe.
