Biography

Mihailo Polit-Desančić (Serbian Cyrillic: Михаило Полит-Десанчић; 16 April 1833 – 30 March 1920) was a Serbian politician, journalist, playwright, and writer from Novi Sad. Throughout his long and active life, he became one of the most well-known Serbian public intellectuals of the 19th and early 20th centuries. He contributed greatly to political discussions, cultural life, and literature within the Serbian communities of the Habsburg Empire.

In this environment, Polit-Desančić studied law and literature, preparing himself for a career as a journalist and public advocate. His early experiences were marked by the revolutionary events of 1848, which strongly influenced his political views and solidified his dedication to constitutional liberalism and the rights of Serbs in Austria-Hungary.
