Biography

Mohamed Salah Hamed Mahrous Ghaly, born on June 15, 1992, in Nagrig, Egypt, is one of the world's best football players. He's recognized as the all-time top foreign goalscorer in the Premier League and the top African goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League. Often called the "Egyptian King," Salah is considered one of the greatest wingers ever, shining at both club and international levels.

Salah started his professional career in 2010 with Al-Mokawloon before moving to Swiss club Basel in 2012, where he won two Swiss Super League titles. His European adventure took him to Chelsea in 2014 for £11 million. Due to limited playing time, he was loaned to Fiorentina and then Roma, who later signed him permanently for €15 million. During the 2016-17 season, he was key to Roma's title challenge, scoring and assisting in double figures.

In 2017, Liverpool bought Salah for £36.9 million, marking a major turn in his career. He set a record in his first season by scoring 32 Premier League goals in a 38-game season and helped Liverpool reach the 2018 Champions League final. Teaming up with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, Salah played a big part in Liverpool's Champions League and Premier League wins. He also won the FA Cup, EFL Cup, FA Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup with Liverpool.

Salah has picked up numerous individual awards, including three FWA Footballer of the Year awards, four Premier League Golden Boots, and multiple Premier League Player of the Season awards. His outstanding 2018 performances earned him the Onze d'Or, FIFA Puskás Award, and The Best FIFA Men's Player recognition. He also won the PFA Players' Player of the Year award for the third time after the 2024-25 season, during which he helped Liverpool win a second league title and set a new record for goal contributions in a 38-game Premier League season. Married to Magy, Salah still captains the Egypt national team while playing for Liverpool as a right winger or right midfielder.

Before Fame

Growing up in the small village of Nagrig in Egypt's Gharbia Governorate, Salah showed his football talent early on, even with the limited sports facilities in rural Egypt. His family backed his sports dreams, and he eventually caught the eye of scouts while playing for local youth teams.

Salah started his path to professional football when he joined the youth academy of Al-Mokawloon, a well-known club in Egypt. His development happened at a time when Egyptian football was getting more international attention, and several players were successfully moving to European leagues. This setting helped lay the groundwork for his breakthrough into senior football in 2010.
