Biography

Moisés Isaac Caicedo Corozo was born on November 2, 2001, in Santo Domingo, Ecuador. He became one of the world's top defensive midfielders thanks to his exceptional passing skills and tactical smarts. He started his professional career at Independiente del Valle, where he refined his abilities before moving to European football.

In February 2021, Caicedo joined Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League for an undisclosed fee. To get used to English football, he spent some time on loan at Belgian Pro League club Beerschot, gaining important European experience. When he returned to Brighton, he became a regular starter and was quickly noticed for his defensive skills and passing from the midfield.

Caicedo's play at Brighton caught the eye of leading clubs across Europe. His knack for stopping opposition attacks with precise interceptions and starting counter-attacks with his passing made him highly sought after. This led to a major transfer to Chelsea in August 2023 for a reported £100 million, making him one of the costliest midfielders in football history.

Internationally, Caicedo has been a reliable player for the Ecuador national team since he earned his first cap in 2020. He has over 60 international appearances and has played in major tournaments, including two Copa América competitions and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. His efforts have helped Ecuador stay competitive in South American football in the early 2020s.

With Chelsea, Caicedo continued his rise, helping the club succeed in European competitions. His role in Chelsea's UEFA Conference League win during the 2024-25 season was his first major club trophy and confirmed his place among the top midfielders in world football.

Before Fame

Growing up in Santo Domingo, Ecuador, Caicedo came onto the scene when South American football was getting more global attention and investment in youth development. Ecuador's football facilities had been getting better during the 2000s and early 2010s, with clubs like Independiente del Valle known for nurturing young talent and opening doors to European football.

The early 2000s marked a time when global football markets were expanding, and European clubs started scouting more in South America. This situation gave talented players from smaller football countries like Ecuador a chance to be noticed internationally. Caicedo's growth happened alongside advancements in scouting and data analysis, enabling clubs to spot promising players from regions that were often overlooked before.
