Biography

Ariadna Thalía Sodi Miranda was born on August 26, 1971, in Mexico City, Mexico. She became a major figure in Latin entertainment, known as the 'Queen of Latin Pop' and 'Queen of Telenovelas' due to her success in both music and television. She started her career at age nine with the group Din-Din and later joined the popular Mexican pop group Timbiriche in the late 1980s, which brought her national attention.

Thalía's solo music career kicked off in 1990 with her self-titled debut album, followed by Mundo de Cristal (1991) and Love (1992), making her a significant presence in Mexican popular music. She gained international fame with the albums En Éxtasis (1995), Amor a la Mexicana (1997), and Arrasando (2000), which became best-selling Latin albums and increased her popularity across Latin America and beyond. She continued to grow musically with albums like Thalía (2003), El Sexto Sentido (2006), and the live album Primera Fila (2009), one of Mexico's best-selling albums.

Alongside her music career, Thalía also had a successful acting career in telenovelas. After early roles in Quinceañera (1987) and her first leading role in Luz y Sombra (1989), she gained worldwide fame with the 'María Trilogy'—María Mercedes (1993), Marimar (1994), and María la del Barrio (1996)—followed by Rosalinda (1999). According to UNICEF, these telenovelas were broadcast in over 180 countries and reached about 2 billion viewers, making her the highest-paid actress in Televisa's history and the most famous star of the telenovela genre worldwide.

Throughout her career, Thalía has sold over 25 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling Latin music artists ever. Her awards include six Billboard Latin Music Awards, eight Lo Nuestro Awards, the Latin Recording Academy's President's Merit Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She is married to music executive Tommy Mottola, and her work extends into fashion and business ventures, solidifying her status as a cultural icon in the Latin entertainment world.

Before Fame

Thalía started her entertainment career very young, at just nine years old, when she briefly joined the group Din-Din. Her early years in the industry were shaped by her time with Timbiriche during the late 1980s, one of Mexico's most popular pop groups at that time. This gave her important training in performing, recording, and understanding the music business.

The late 1980s and early 1990s were a time of big growth for Latin American entertainment, especially in Mexico where telenovelas were becoming popular exports. Thalía got her start during a great time when the industry was growing internationally and needed new talent to attract both local and worldwide audiences.
