Biography

Tomáš Rosický, a retired Czech footballer, was born on October 4, 1980, in Prague. He is considered one of the top Czech players of his time, captaining the Czech national team for a decade and playing for some of Europe's best clubs. He started his professional journey at Sparta Prague, his hometown club, playing for three seasons in the Czech First League and quickly becoming a standout player.

In 2001, Rosický made a big move to Borussia Dortmund for DM 25 million (around £8 million), the highest fee paid by a Bundesliga club at that time. He quickly made an impact in Germany, contributing to Dortmund's league title in his first season and their run to the 2002 UEFA Cup Final. His time in the Bundesliga established him as a top attacking midfielder in Europe, known for his technical skills, vision, and creative playmaking.

After five successful years in Germany, Rosický joined Arsenal in 2006, where he would spend ten years with the Premier League club. At Arsenal, he made 247 appearances and became a fan favorite for his smart play and ability to break down defenses with precise passing and movement. A highlight of his Arsenal career was the team's win in the 2014 FA Cup Final, though his time in England was often disrupted by various long-term injuries.

On the international stage, Rosický debuted for the Czech Republic in 2000 and quickly became a key player. He was named captain in 2006 and led his country through many major tournaments. He played in four UEFA European Championships and the 2006 FIFA World Cup, earning his 100th international cap on June 12, 2015. By the end of his international play, he was the Czech Republic's fourth-highest goalscorer. After retiring, Rosický moved into football administration and is now the sports director at Sparta Prague, his former club.

Before Fame

Rosický grew up in Prague during the final years of communist Czechoslovakia and the shift to democracy. He started playing football early and joined the youth academy at Sparta Prague, one of the top clubs in Czech football history. His development matched the Czech Republic becoming an independent nation in 1993 and its rise as a major player in European football.

As a young midfielder, Rosický moved up through Sparta's youth system during a time when Czech football was gaining international attention, thanks to players like Pavel Nedvěd and Karel Poborský. Rosický made his professional debut for Sparta in the late 1990s and quickly stood out for his technical skill and football intelligence. This talent eventually led to his record-breaking transfer to Germany.
