Biography

Yacine Nasreddine Brahimi is a professional footballer born on February 8, 1990, in Paris, France. He plays as an attacking midfielder and winger for the Qatari club Al-Gharafa, where he is also the captain. Although born in France, Brahimi represents the Algeria national team internationally, having switched from France in 2013.

Brahimi's football journey started in the Île-de-France region, training with local clubs ASB Montreuil and CO Vincennois. He was recognized for his talent early on and was selected to attend the Clairefontaine academy in 2003 at 13 years old. He spent three years honing his skills at the academy, which has produced many of France's top players. After completing his education there, Brahimi signed with Rennes, moving up through their youth system and earning several club achievements.

After turning professional with Rennes, Brahimi was loaned to second division club Clermont Foot, where he had a standout 2009-10 season that highlighted his technical skills. His career then led him to Spain, joining La Liga club Granada CF in 2013. His impressive performances in Spain caught the eye of Portuguese giants Porto, who signed him for €6.5 million in 2014. This transfer was a significant step in his career, establishing him as a player capable of competing at the highest European level.

Internationally, Brahimi initially played for France at all youth levels, taking part in the 2009 UEFA European Under-19 Championship where France reached the semi-finals. However, in February 2013, he switched his international allegiance to Algeria and made his debut for the Desert Foxes a month later. This decision was rewarding as he became a key player for Algeria, participating in several major tournaments including the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021. His most notable international success came in 2019 when Algeria won the Africa Cup of Nations, with Brahimi playing a crucial role in the victory. Known for his technical skill, Brahimi is regarded as one of Algeria's top players of his generation.

Before Fame

Brahimi began his journey to professional football in the suburbs of Paris, developing his skills with local youth clubs ASB Montreuil and CO Vincennois. His talent was clear from a young age, earning him a spot at the Clairefontaine academy when he was just 13. This top French football training center gave him the world-class coaching that shaped his technical playing style.

At that time, French football was thriving, with the national team winning the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship. This success led to more investment in youth programs, and Clairefontaine became a key part of French football education. This excellent environment helped Brahimi develop into a professional player, although he later chose to play for Algeria at the senior international level instead of France.
