Biography

Youssef En-Nesyri was born on 1 June 1997 in Fez, Morocco. A professional footballer who plays as a striker, he has represented both club sides across Europe and the Middle East as well as the Morocco national team throughout his career. Known for his aerial ability, pace, and clinical finishing, En-Nesyri established himself as one of the most dangerous forwards in Moroccan football history and one of the more productive strikers to emerge from African football in the 2020s.

En-Nesyri began his development at local youth level before earning a place at the prestigious King Mohammed VI football academy. His talent brought him to Spain, where he would spend eight formative years playing in La Liga. He represented Málaga and Leganés before signing with Sevilla, the club where he reached the height of his powers in European football. Over the course of his time in Spain, he made more than 200 La Liga appearances, building a reputation as a reliable and physical centre-forward capable of leading the line at the highest domestic level.

His transfer to Turkish club Fenerbahçe came in 2024, marking a new chapter in his career. He subsequently moved to the Saudi Pro League, joining Al-Ittihad on 3 February 2026, continuing a pattern of high-profile transfers that reflected his standing in world football.

On the international stage, En-Nesyri made his senior debut for Morocco in 2016 at the age of 18, having previously been capped at under-20 level. He was included in Morocco's squads for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups, as well as five editions of the Africa Cup of Nations, in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025. It was at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar that En-Nesyri secured his place in football history. Morocco became the first African and Arab nation to reach the semi-finals of a FIFA World Cup, and En-Nesyri was the team's leading scorer throughout that unprecedented run, contributing goals at critical moments in the tournament.

In recognition of his contributions to Moroccan football and the national pride generated by the 2022 World Cup campaign, En-Nesyri was awarded the Officer of the Order of the Throne in 2022, one of Morocco's most distinguished state honors. His career represents the broader rise of Moroccan football on the world stage and the increasing presence of African footballers at the top levels of European and global competition.

Before Fame

Youssef En-Nesyri grew up in Fez, one of Morocco's oldest and most culturally significant cities. Like many young footballers in Morocco, he developed his skills through local youth football before attracting the attention of talent scouts affiliated with the King Mohammed VI football academy, a state-supported institution established to cultivate elite Moroccan footballing talent and funnel promising players into professional environments.

His move to Spain as a young professional placed him within one of the world's most competitive football leagues at a formative stage in his development. Playing for Málaga and then Leganés gave him experience in the lower reaches of La Liga competition before his move to Sevilla, a club with genuine European pedigree, confirmed that he had the quality to compete at a meaningful level in Spanish football. These years of consistent development across multiple clubs laid the foundation for his later achievements at international level.
