The originally scheduled first round of 10 May 2020 was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland. After political negotiations between the governing Law and Justice party and its coalition partner Agreement, new dates were set, with the Marshal of the Sejm ordering the first round for 28 June 2020.
Polish voters cast ballots in a first round on 28 June 2020, with no candidate securing a majority. A second round on 12 July 2020 pitted incumbent President Andrzej Duda, backed by the ruling Law and Justice party, against Civic Platform vice-chairman and Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski.
Duda won re-election with 51% of the second-round vote, becoming the first incumbent to secure a second term since Aleksander Kwaśniewski in 2000. The result extended to six the consecutive national elections won by the right-wing Law and Justice party over centrist and centre-left opposition forces.
