On 21 November 2022 at 13:21 WIB, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck near Cianjur in West Java, Indonesia. The shallow depth amplified shaking, producing a maximum Modified Mercalli intensity of VIII (Severe) across 16 districts of Cianjur Regency.
Between 335 and 635 people were killed, 7,729 were injured, and five remained missing. Over 62,628 homes were damaged across the affected region. The disaster became the deadliest earthquake in Indonesia since 2018 and the worst in West Java since 2009.
