On May 8, 2022, Max Verstappen won the inaugural Miami Grand Prix, overtaking pole-sitter and championship leader Charles Leclerc during the race. Leclerc finished second and his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. claimed third place. Verstappen also recorded the fastest lap of the race.
