Less than five hours after the Hamas attack began, fighting was reported outside Re'im Army Base. Hamas fighters breached the perimeter and killed Israeli soldiers at the site, with Hamas reportedly posting video evidence of the dead. The base, a critical command and intelligence node for the IDF's operations toward Gaza, came under direct assault.
Israeli Defense Forces eventually regained control of Re'im Army Base later on October 7. The attack exposed vulnerabilities at a senior IDF command installation and formed part of the broader Hamas offensive that triggered the Gaza war, prompting a large-scale Israeli military response in the days and weeks that followed.
