France qualified to host the 2023 contest after Lissandro won the 2022 edition for France with the song 'Oh Maman!', prompting France Télévisions and the EBU to organise the event at the Palais Nikaïa in Nice — the second time France hosted Junior Eurovision, following Paris in 2021.
On 26 November 2023, sixteen countries competed in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Nice. Estonia participated for the first time, Germany returned after a prior absence, and for the first time all five members of the Eurovision 'Big Five' took part simultaneously. France won with Zoé Clauzure's song 'Cœur', with Spain, Armenia, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine rounding out the top five.
France became only the second country to win Junior Eurovision in consecutive years, after Poland, and equaled Georgia's record for the most total Junior Eurovision victories. Germany achieved its best-ever result, while Georgia tied its worst placement and Ireland finished last for the first time in the contest's history.
