Biography
Emma Gramatica, originally named Aida Laura Argia Gramatica, was born on October 25, 1874, in Borgo San Donnino, now Fidenza, Parma, Italy. She was one of the most acclaimed stage and film actresses of her time. Coming from a family with strong ties to the theater, her sisters Irma and Anna also became actresses, making the Gramatica sisters a significant part of Italian theater in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Growing up in a theatrical family in late nineteenth-century Italy naturally led Emma Gramatica to the stage. At that time, Italian theatre was prestigious and culturally central, with touring companies bringing plays to cities and towns across the country.
