Erick Bernabé Barrondo García was born on 14 June 1991 in San Cristóbal Verapaz, Guatemala. He is a professional race walker who competes primarily in the 20 km and 50 km walk events on the international athletics circuit. Barrondo rose to global attention when he claimed the silver medal in the Men's 20 km race walk at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, becoming the first Guatemalan athlete in history to win an Olympic medal.
