Biography

Noussair Mazraoui (Arabic: نُصَيْر مَزرَاوِيّ) was born on 14 November 1997 in Leiderdorp, Netherlands. A professional footballer of Dutch-Moroccan heritage, he plays primarily as a right-back but has demonstrated the versatility to operate at left-back and centre-back as well. He currently represents Premier League club Manchester United and the Morocco national team at the senior international level.

Mazraoui came through the renowned Ajax Youth Academy, one of Europe's most respected developmental programs. He progressed steadily through the ranks before establishing himself in Ajax's first team, going on to make 137 appearances for the club. During his time in Amsterdam, he collected three Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups, cementing his reputation as one of the top full-backs in Dutch football and attracting interest from clubs across Europe.

In the summer of 2022, Mazraoui made the move to German giants Bayern Munich, joining on a free transfer. His debut season in the Bundesliga proved immediately successful, as he contributed to Bayern's league title triumph. He spent two seasons at the Allianz Arena before Manchester United secured his services in August 2024, bringing him to the Premier League as part of a broader rebuild at Old Trafford.

At international level, Mazraoui chose to represent Morocco, the country of his family's heritage, despite having been born and raised in the Netherlands. He made his senior debut for the Moroccan national team in September 2018 and has since accumulated more than 40 caps. His most prominent international moment came at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where Morocco produced one of the tournament's most striking performances, advancing all the way to the semi-finals — a first for any African nation. Mazraoui was part of the squad throughout that campaign. He also contributed to Morocco's victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, adding a continental title to his international record.

In recognition of his contributions to Moroccan football and his role in raising the profile of the national team, Mazraoui was awarded the Officer of the Order of the Throne in 2022, one of Morocco's most distinguished state honours.

Before Fame

Noussair Mazraoui grew up in the Netherlands, where football infrastructure and youth development systems are among the most structured in Europe. From a young age he was drawn into the orbit of Ajax, the Amsterdam-based club with a long tradition of producing technically refined, tactically intelligent players. The Ajax Youth Academy, known in Dutch as De Toekomst, provided him with a rigorous football education that emphasized positional awareness, technical skill, and adaptability.

His progression through the youth ranks at Ajax coincided with a broader resurgence for the club in the late 2010s, during which Ajax returned to prominence in European football. This environment gave Mazraoui the competitive grounding necessary to eventually earn a place in the senior squad, where he developed into a reliable and versatile defensive player capable of operating across the back line.
