Biography

Vinícius José Paixão de Oliveira Júnior, known as Vinícius Júnior or Vini Jr., is a Brazilian professional footballer recognized as one of the top wingers in the world since the late 2010s. Born on July 12, 2000, in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, he began his professional career with Flamengo in 2017 at just 16. His incredible speed, technical skill, and dribbling quickly caught international attention, leading to a record-breaking transfer to Real Madrid shortly after his debut.

He transferred to Real Madrid for £38 million, a national record for a Brazilian player under 18. Due to FIFA rules, Vinícius stayed at Flamengo until he turned 18, officially joining the Spanish team in 2018. He adjusted well to European football and became a key player in Real Madrid’s attack. His standout performances were crucial in helping the club win several major trophies, including two La Liga-Champions League doubles.

Vinícius played a significant role in Real Madrid’s Champions League victories. He scored the decisive goal in the 2022 Champions League final against Liverpool, earning his reputation as a key player in important matches. Two years later, he scored again in the 2024 final and was named the tournament’s Player of the Season. His top-level performances got him included in the FIFPRO World XI in both 2023 and 2024, and he won The Best FIFA Men's Player award in 2024.

Internationally, Vinícius played for Brazil at various youth levels before making his senior debut in 2021. His youth career was marked by wins at the 2015 South American U-15 Championship and the 2017 South American U-17 Championship, where he was the top scorer. With the senior team, he helped Brazil reach the final of the 2021 Copa América and played in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where Brazil won the title. Both his individual and team achievements have placed him among the top players of his generation.
