Biography
Bamir Myrteza Topi was born on April 24, 1957, in Tirana, Albania. He studied veterinary medicine at the Agricultural University of Tirana, which influenced his early career before he moved into politics and diplomacy. He is married to Teuta Topi, and both have been well-known in Albanian public life during his time in office.
Before Fame
Topi grew up during the last years of Albania's communist regime under Enver Hoxha, one of the most repressive governments in Cold War Europe. He studied veterinary science at the Agricultural University of Tirana, gaining practical science knowledge just as Albania started to open up and rethink its politics. When the communist system fell in the early 1990s and Albania began its shaky shift toward democracy, Topi gradually entered politics. He joined the Democratic Party of Albania and became known as a loyal and capable member of the party.
