Biography
Elseid Hysaj, an Albanian footballer, was born on February 2, 1994, in Shkodër, Albania. He plays as a full-back for Lazio in Serie A and is part of the Albania national team. Hysaj started his football journey with the youth team at Vllaznia in Albania before moving to Italy to join Empoli's youth setup, which set the stage for his pro career.
He made his senior debut with Empoli in 2012 and became a regular starter by the next season. Over four years with the Tuscan club, he made over 90 appearances in all competitions, playing a crucial role in getting the team promoted to Serie A. His time at Empoli highlighted his ability to play effectively on both wings, his composure on the ball, and his solid defensive skills. These attributes made him one of Italy's top young full-backs, drawing interest from major Serie A clubs.
In 2015, Hysaj signed with Napoli, marking a key period in his club career. He reunited with coach Maurizio Sarri, his former coach at Empoli, and quickly became a mainstay in the team. He maintained his important role even with managerial changes under Carlo Ancelotti and Gennaro Gattuso, proving his ability to adapt to different playing styles. Over six seasons with Napoli, Hysaj developed into one of Serie A's most reliable and tactically sound full-backs. His solid defense, consistency, and skill on both sides of the field made him a key part of Napoli's defense during a time when the club was a strong title contender.
At Napoli, Hysaj played in over 220 games across all competitions, helped the team achieve multiple top-two finishes in Serie A, and was part of their Coppa Italia win. When his contract ended in 2021, he left as one of Napoli's longest-serving and most reliable players of the decade. He then joined Lazio on a free transfer in 2021, rejoining coach Maurizio Sarri. At Lazio, he has continued to show his versatility as a full-back on both wings, quickly becoming a vital part of the team and contributing to its tactics under Sarri.
