Biography

Claudio Miguel Pizarro Bosio was born on October 3, 1978, in Callao, Peru. He started his professional football career in 1996 with Deportivo Pesquero, then joined Alianza Lima in 1998. There, he won the Peruvian Primera División and was named the best player of the season. His impressive play at Alianza Lima caught the attention of European clubs, and in 1999, he signed with Werder Bremen in Germany's Bundesliga.

With Werder Bremen, Pizarro quickly became a top striker, earning the newcomer of the championship title and a spot on the ideal team for the 2000–01 season. In 2001, he moved to Bayern Munich, where he won an Intercontinental Cup, two Bundesliga titles, four DFB-Pokals, two DFL-Ligapokals, and the DFL-Supercup. He was the top scorer in the DFB-Pokal during both the 2004–05 and 2005–06 seasons, solidifying his status as a leading forward in German football.

In 2007, Pizarro joined Chelsea F.C. in the English Premier League, scoring in his debut and finishing the season as a league runner-up. He went back to Werder Bremen in 2009, where he continued to win trophies, including the 2008–09 DFB-Pokal and the 2009 German Supercup, while also finishing as the top scorer in the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League. Bayern Munich brought him back in 2012, and he won the UEFA Champions League, the Club World Cup, the European Super Cup, the DFL-Supercup, three more Bundesliga titles, and two more DFB-Pokals during his second stint.

Throughout his career, Pizarro became the highest scorer and most successful Latin American player in German football history. He is the all-time top scorer for SV Werder Bremen, ranks ninth among Bayern Munich's top scorers, and is sixth on the all-time Bundesliga scoring list, as well as its second-highest scorer in the 21st century. He is also among the top 20 scorers in UEFA club competition history and ranks seventh among South American scorers in European football. He was the captain of Peru's national team and its fifth-highest scorer. After retiring, he became a club ambassador for Bayern Munich, a position he still holds.

Claudio Pizarro grew up in Callao, a port city next to Lima known for producing many Peruvian footballers.
