Before Fame
Ho Ching grew up in Singapore during a time of quick change, as the city-state moved from being a British colony to an independent nation in 1965 and began pushing for economic growth. In her early years, Singapore's strong focus on education and merit-based success as keys to national advancement influenced her greatly. She attended Crescent Girls' School and National Junior College and was among many Singaporeans encouraged to pursue tough academic courses, particularly in science and engineering, which the government saw as important for industrial growth.
