Biography

Layal Mounir Abboud was born on May 15, 1982, in Kniseh, a village in the Tyre district of southern Lebanon. Growing up in a musical family instilled in her an early love for Lebanese folk traditions and Arabic music. She has a wide-ranging educational background, studying English literature at Lebanese University, translation at Beirut Arab University, and musical expression at the American University of Science and Technology. This varied academic experience has played a significant role in her artistic career and business ventures.

Before making a name for herself in the entertainment world, Abboud worked as an officer in the Internal Security Forces (ISF), showing her dedication to public service. She began her music career by participating in the Studio El-Fan series, representing South Lebanon between 2001 and 2002. This TV talent show was her first step into the Lebanese entertainment scene and set the stage for her music career.

Abboud's big break came with her first album 'Fi Shouq' in late 2007, which made her a leading voice in contemporary Arabic music. The album featured a blend of traditional Lebanese folk music with modern pop, attracting both young listeners and those looking for genuine cultural expression. Her ability to sing in various Arabic dialects has helped her music reach audiences across different regions of the Arab world.

In addition to recording, Abboud is known as a lively performer, especially for her summer concert tours and festivals in Lebanon and the Middle East. Her shows often include traditional Lebanese folk music, helping to keep the cultural heritage alive in a modern way. As part of the Syndicate of Professional Artists in Lebanon, she is formally recognized within the country's artistic circle and continues to grow her impact as both a performer and entrepreneur.

Before Fame

Growing up in the Tyrian village of Kniseh in the 1980s and 1990s, Abboud spent her childhood in a Lebanon recovering from civil war and rebuilding its cultural institutions. Her musical family gave her early exposure to traditional Lebanese folk music, while her studies in literature and translation honed her language skills and awareness of culture.

Her journey into entertainment was not typical. She first worked as an officer in the Internal Security Forces before moving towards artistic endeavors. The Studio El-Fan television program, which has launched many Lebanese artists' careers since the 1970s, provided her an entry into professional entertainment when she competed as a South Lebanese representative in the early 2000s.
