
Biography
Marin Čilić (born 28 September 1988) is a Croatian professional tennis player and one of the most successful of his generation. Born in Medjugorje, Čilić reached a career-high ranking of World No. 3 in January 2018 and has won 21 ATP Tour-level singles titles. His biggest win came at the 2014 US Open, where he claimed his first Grand Slam title by defeating Kei Nishikori in the final. Čilić has consistently played at the top levels of professional tennis, reaching at least the semifinals in all four Grand Slam tournaments, a feat achieved by only four other active players. He has also shown his versatility by reaching at least the quarterfinals in all nine Masters tournaments. His Grand Slam success includes reaching the finals of the 2017 Wimbledon Championships and the 2018 Australian Open, proving he can compete on different surfaces. In doubles, Čilić gained international recognition by winning an Olympic silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics alongside Ivan Dodig. He has been a major contributor to Croatian tennis, particularly in the Croatian team's 2018 Davis Cup victory, highlighting his skill in team competition. Čilić's consistent performance in professional tennis is evident as he is one of only six active players with 20 or more ATP titles, showing his excellence over more than ten years of professional play.
Before Fame
Growing up in Medjugorje, a small town in Bosnia and Herzegovina that later became part of Croatia, Čilić started playing tennis at a young age and showed early promise.
