Biography

Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin was born on March 3, 1966, in Lobnya, a city in the Moscow Oblast of Russia. He studied engineering and technology at Moscow State University of Technology STANKIN. Later, he attended the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, where he gained important knowledge in economics and public administration for his future government roles.

Mishustin started his career in Russia’s tax administration system and quickly moved up the ranks thanks to his strong organizational and analytical skills. His technical and economic backgrounds made him successful in modernizing processes and introducing digital solutions in government work. In 2010, he became the director of the Federal Taxation Service and served in that role until 2020.

While leading the Federal Taxation Service, Mishustin introduced reforms and updates that changed Russia’s tax collection system. He brought in digital technologies and automated procedures to make the system more efficient and user-friendly for taxpayers. His work increased state tax revenues and earned him awards such as the Order of Honour in 2012 and the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" 4th class in 2015.

On January 15, 2020, President Vladimir Putin nominated Mishustin to be Russia's Prime Minister after Dmitry Medvedev and his government stepped down. This move was part of major constitutional changes in Russia. The State Duma confirmed his appointment on January 16, 2020, and he took on the role of head of government. As Prime Minister, Mishustin handles domestic policy, economic management, and works with federal ministries and agencies. He holds the rank of 1st class Active State Councillor of the Russian Federation and is married to Vladlena Mishustina.

Before Fame

Mishustin grew up during the last years of the Soviet Union, a time known for economic slowdown and political changes. His early years were during the perestroika reforms of the 1980s and the USSR's collapse in 1991. This history helped him understand the need for efficient government management and economic updates.

His education at Moscow State University of Technology STANKIN was influenced by the Soviet focus on technical and engineering subjects. Later, his studies at the Presidential Academy matched the post-Soviet shift towards market economics and public administration reform. These educational experiences helped him pursue a career in updating government institutions during Russia's transition.
