Rio Haryanto, born on January 22, 1993, in Surakarta, Indonesia, became his country's first Formula One driver. He started his racing career in karting, showing impressive skill by winning several regional championships. This early success paved the way for his move to single-seater racing in 2008 as he joined junior formula competitions.

In 2009, Haryanto won his first major title by securing the Formula BMW Pacific Championship with the Meritus team.
