Biography

Sergio Ramos García was born on March 30, 1986, in Camas, a town in Seville, Spain. He honed his football skills in the youth academy of Sevilla FC and made his professional debut with their senior team. After two seasons, Real Madrid noticed his talent and signed him in the summer of 2005. This move made him one of the priciest teenage defenders at the time. Joining Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu was the start of one of the most successful careers in Spanish football.

At Real Madrid, Ramos became a key player in the club’s defense over sixteen years. Known for his strong aerial ability, physical strength, leadership, and knack for scoring goals from defense, he scored over 100 goals for the club. As captain, he led Real Madrid to five La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League victories, earning a spot in the Team of the Season each time they won. By the end of his contract in 2021, he had played more games for Real Madrid than anyone in history, even surpassing Raúl's record.

In July 2021, Ramos joined Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, where he played for two seasons and won the French league championship twice. He then returned to Sevilla FC for one season before moving to Liga MX side Monterrey. With Monterrey, he captained the team and participated in the first edition of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, continuing his impressive career into his late thirties.

Internationally, Ramos played for Spain from 2005 to 2021, earning 180 caps to become Spain's most capped player. He played in four FIFA World Cups, winning in 2010, and took part in three UEFA European Championships, winning in 2008 and 2012. This gave him three major international titles, making him one of the most honored players in Spanish national team history. Ramos is married to television presenter and model Pilar Rubio, and they have children together. Outside of football, he has been acknowledged by the Spanish state, receiving the Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sports Merit in 2011 and the Medal of Andalusia in 2009.

Before Fame

Sergio Ramos grew up in Camas, a small town near Seville in southern Spain, in a family connected to football. He joined the youth academy of local club Sevilla FC early on and quickly moved up through its ranks, showing an exceptional mix of technical skill, determination, and physical strength. His performances in Sevilla's youth and reserve teams caught the attention of top clubs across Europe.

Ramos debuted with Sevilla's first team at sixteen, making him one of the youngest players to play for the club in La Liga. His two seasons with Sevilla's senior team proved he was a talent to watch, and Real Madrid quickly signed him in 2005. Moving to Madrid at eighteen brought high expectations, but he adapted to the demands of one of the world's biggest clubs with a calmness and confidence beyond his years.
