Simonas Tadas Stanevičius (Polish: Szymon Tadeusz Staniewicz; 26 October 1799 – 10 March 1848) was a Lithuanian writer and an activist during the Samogitian Revival, an early phase of the Lithuanian National Revival. Born in Raseiniai District, he grew up in Samogitia, Lithuania, which deeply influenced his literary work and his dedication to preserving the Lithuanian language and culture at a time when they faced threats from Russification and Polish cultural dominance.
Stanevičius attended Vilnius University, a prestigious academic institution in the region. There, he met other intellectuals and cultural activists who shared his concerns about the Lithuanian language and folk traditions. Vilnius University in the early 19th century was a hub of intellectual activity, providing Stanevičius with both the academic resources and the network of like-minded individuals necessary to pursue his cultural goals.
