In July 2018, the International Olympic Committee officially added the women's monobob to the Olympic bobsleigh program and redistributed six quota spots from men's events to women's, aiming to increase gender parity in the sport at the Games.
Bobsleigh events at the 2022 Winter Olympics were held at the Xiaohaituo Bobsleigh and Luge Track in the Yanqing cluster from 13 to 20 February 2022. Four events were contested — two for men and two for women — with a total athlete quota of 170.
The inclusion of the women's monobob brought the number of women's bobsleigh events to two, equaling the men's program for the first time and broadening competitive opportunities for women in Olympic bobsleigh at subsequent Games.
