Biography

Arnulfo Arias Madrid was born on August 15, 1901, in Penonomé, Panama, and became one of the most important and debated figures in Panama's political history. He studied in the United States and got degrees from the University of Chicago and Harvard Medical School, which gave him a strong background as a doctor and intellectual. These experiences shaped his nationalist politics. Back in Panama, he shifted his focus from medicine to politics, becoming a key voice for Panamanian identity and independence during a time when foreign influence, especially from the United States controlling the Canal Zone, was strong.

Before Fame

Arnulfo Arias Madrid grew up in Penonomé, a small city in Panama's Coclé region, at a time when the country was newly independent and heavily influenced by its ties with the United States. He had strong academic skills that gave him the chance to study abroad, first at the University of Chicago and then at Harvard Medical School, where he trained as a doctor. His time in the United States introduced him to international ideas, including rising nationalist movements, which would later shape his political beliefs.
